Speech & Debate has  been around for decades. This year we have nine students on the team, seven are freshman and two are sophomores. This is the first year for all of them.

2016-17 Speech and Debate team.

There are three types of debate that students have the option to compete in, those include: Lincoln-Douglas debate, Public Forum Debate, and Cross-Examination Debate. The Individual Events that they compete in include: Duet, Humor, Oratory, Poetry, Student Congress, Extemporaneous, and Poetry.

Practice started last October all across the state but, “We don’t travel until January,” said Coach  Cindy  Glosson.

When asked why he joined Speech & Debate, Freshman Tyler Kay said, “My brother Logan inspired me to do Speech & Debate. I became interested […] when my brother came home after practice and talked about how fun it was.” Tyler Kay is doing both Duet and Humor this year.

The Speechsters had their first competition in Casper at Kelly Walsh High School. Freshman Hannah Hu said, “I had a lot of fun, but it’s going to be a learning curve. A lot of us got pretty close to semifinals. Now that I sort of know how it works I’m more ready for the next competition.”

The members of the team are Freshmen Ashley Brawley, Breeze Petty, Kyle Mosser, Reilly Russell, Tyler Kay, Hannah Hu, and Sophomores Aaron Hanson and Courtney Jeunehomme.
